The Central Visayas Regional Development Council (RDC) awarded the winners of the Search for Outstanding COVID-19 Volunteers of Region 7 for Individual and Organization Categories during its 4th Quarter Full Council meeting on 03 December 2021 via Zoom video conference.
The winner of the individual category is Mr. Romulo Señeris II, a professor from Negros Oriental, while Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) was declared winner for the organization category.
Señeris was chosen among 19 nominees from the provinces of Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor. His major accomplishments include development of training modules for contact tracing of LGUs and Capacity Building of DILG contact tracing team management, development of contingency plan for sudden surge of COVID-19 cases, conduct of trainings and capacity building activities, and data collection and interpretation of COVID-19 cases in Negros Oriental.
For the organization category, RAFI bested six other nominees from Cebu. Its major accomplishments include implementation of COVID-19 related projects and activities such as the Hunaw project, Water Relief Fund, Adopt a Barangay, Bakuna Awards; donation of food packs, grocery items, PPEs, and other COVID-19 essential items; provision of bicycles and shuttle service for the frontliners; and provision of ambulance and home medical service to COVID-19 patients.
The RDC 7 also awarded certificates of appreciation to other nominees for both the individual and organization categories as well as to the members of the regional search committee composed of regional line agencies such as DILG, DSWD, CSC, OCD, PIA and DOH, volunteer service organization such as the Global Initiative for Exchange and Development (GIED) and RDC 7 private sector representatives Dr. Profetiza Lim of Negros Oriental and Aurelio Salgados, Jr. of Bohol. The Search for Outstanding COVID-19 Volunteers was initiated by the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency, an attached agency of NEDA, in recognition of the significant contribution of individual and organization volunteers in mitigating the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The national awarding of the regional winners will be done this month as one of the highlights of the National Volunteer Month celebration.
